The Devil and I walked hand in hand,
along the morning shore.
Looking to the ocean,
and taking the time to skip a pebble,
I asked him if he missed it.
"It?" He inquired
with such innocence
I almost believed that, for a second,
He did not know what I meant.
Replying in kind, I spoke
"Yeah, It" with a raise of my brow
for added effect.
"Do you miss home?" He asked.
I took but a moment to think.
It had been so long since I could remember. . . .
"Exactly!" Cried the Devil.
Silence passed, with each of us
knowing, a moment was shared.
I uh. . . . don't know. For some reason, every time I look at this, I see the fall of Lucifer. The fading of light into darkness. Twisted, I know. Anyways, as always. . . .
Singularity copy written to the artist Jeffrey Scott Burns.
And the poem? That you can have, if you really want it.
